The death of a loved one or diagnosis of a terminal illness is an extremely difficult time and in recognition of the emotional stress families are under at this time, OnePath has introduced a grief care program to help support their clients through the grieving process. The grief care program provides face to face counselling support (up to 10 sessions per family) and phone counselling to those who have made a claim following the death of a relative or loved one.

The grief care program can be accessed by anyone who is in the process of making a death or a terminal illness claim. The person making the claim is entitled to up to 6 hours of professional counselling. As life events such as these usually affect the whole family, sessions can be split between family members and they can access up to 10 sessions in total.

Getting to counselling sessions can be difficult, so OnePath’s grief care program also provides free phone counselling for a period of 12 months. To access this service you need to contact your counsellor within 13 months of the notification of death or the terminal illness claim being paid. This flexibility reflects OnePath’s understanding that grief can be unpredictable and you may need extra support on certain significant days such as birthdays and anniversaries.

Losing a loved one or receiving a diagnosis of a terminal illness is difficult enough without all the extra stress of having to file insurance claims and sort through paperwork. Hopefully OnePath Life’s grief care program can provide some support to help you and your family get through this difficult time.
